As with most Star Wars films the hype for the last Jedi was out of this world (if you pardon the pun). However there has been many a time when hyped up films do not live up to their expectations. As The Last Jedi hit our screens, I, like many fans, was getting ready to sit through The Force Awakens and when midnight had struck The Last Jedi.
In this context I feel that the fact I watched The Last Jedi so closed to a recap of The Force Awakens, highlighted the major problems and corny moments that could normally be ignored. Where The Force Awakens set ups questions ready to be answered and characters with backstories waiting to be explored, The Last Jedi seems to answer them in ways that disappointed me as a Star Wars fan.
One of the major things that I am hoping isn't true is #SPOILER# Rey being just a nobody born from scavenger parents who sold their daughter to a trader. I feel that this part of the film, especially with the whole Snoke thing was set up to be a double bluff...at least that's what I'm hoping. I guess we'll find out if there is more depth to this new trilogy than meets the eye in the third instalment, until then The Last Jedi sits in the middle ground, it is the Lando of the new trilogy, we are not yet full sure of it's intentions.
I would agree Joe that we are not sure of it's full intentions until the 3rd film is revealed. However I have to say I enjoyed it as a stand alone film and was extremely impressed with the art direction.
Good points Joe, if not slightly harsh. This is going to be a franchise that they will be dragging out for many years (just like the marvel universe), so I'm glad that they have moved away from the old characters and started a new story. Rey not being tied into the Skywalker family means the story can progress.
As for Snoke? I wasn't expecting his outcome. We didn't know the back ground of the emperor in episode 4, like we didn't with Snoke. The difference being though that one lasted longer than the other in the trilogy..
Who knows what the future will hold, just glad they haven't rehashed ep 4-6..
